Thinking

When we are spending time with Kellen we are often called to use our noggins.

While on vacation we've been using the gated underground parking garage at the hotel. Last night as Sweet Husband stepped out of the car to put the keycard in to open the gate, Kellen reached up and pushed the button to open the sunroof of our car. I wasn't too surprised, but a bit annoyed since at the time it was raining outside, and now, inside the car.

This morning as we were exiting the parking garage, again Kellen pushed the button to open our sunroof. Then it dawned on me...we used to have a garage door opener near where the button to the sunroof currently is. Kellen was simply pushing the sunroof button to try to open the gate across the parking garage. It felt good to figure out that Kellen wasn't trying to be annoying...he was really trying to help.

Later on we had lunch at Kellen's favorite restaurant...The Old Spaghetti Factory. One of the reoccurring minor issues Kellen has is that he doesn't scootch up close enough to the table when he eats and this can really create a mess. Most of the time we'll ask him if we can help him with his chair and he'll accept our assistance...but today he wasn't interested in our help. We tried a few times, and then, again, it dawned on me...we could simply pick up the table and move it closer to him instead of expecting him to move closer to the table. That idea worked perfectly.

We've always got to be thinking...
