Make Way

A few days ago I was running some errands and saw a mother duck leading her ten little baby ducklings. They were so young and they were beautiful. The family was waddling down the sidewalk in front of a large Asian market. Everyone who saw them stopped what they were doing to watch. A couple people took pictures with their cell phones. I slowed my car to a crawl as I took in the scene. It was like a page from the book Make Way for Ducklings, only there wasn't a traffic cop to make sure they would be okay.

As I looked on, I went through several emotions in the space of a minute or two. At first I was surprised. It was strange to see a family of ducks walking through a large shopping center. Then, I felt happy to see them. After all, it isn't something you see every day. All of a sudden, I started to identify with the mother duck and felt tears come to my eyes. Just like me, she was valiantly trying to lead her brood through a scary world and keep them safe.

Kellen has been doing better the last couple of days. He is eating and drinking again and today grandma even got him into the car for a short trip to KFC for popcorn chicken through the drive-thru. Progress is slow, but it seems as if we are heading in the right direction. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement.

I'm so glad he's feeling a bit better. I'll keep thinking good thoughts for the fantastic Kellen to return to his old self!
