I heard this saying on Sunday and it's been rolling through my mind.

Don't take advice from people who haven't been through hard times. They don't know. They're not real. You won't relate. They can't support you.
They haven't been through the fire...been tested...burned...but come out the other side. If they had, they would still have scars. They would limp.
A person who walks with a limp remembers what she's been through. She's been humbled. She might always be recovering...but she can help you. She is real. You can trust her.
I walk with a limp. How about you?

Oh, I love this.
We always say that the people with the white picket fence won't give us 'messy loud blended family with a kid with a disability' the time of day.
And for the most part, that's true, unless they are truly compassionate people. Although I have to say that I don't automatically bond with every single mom I know who has a kid with Down syndrome, either! (But that's just because I'm difficult).

Oh, I have always believed that everyone has a story if I am willing to ask and listen - don't they. I have a story and I believe I walk with a limp! This was a great post Jody - thanks.

Oh yes, there is nothing like the unbearably young professional who starts their conversation with "if you would JUST...."
I can usually build a bridge to them, but it is often a quicker build if they already have a limp!
