I was tagged by Apostrophe Suz to write about the books I've read.
Total number of books?
Do people actually keep track of how many books they've read? Let's just say, my mother used to drop me off at our local library on a Saturday and then forget to pick me up. I would stay there happily for several hours and then finally call home wondering if they missed me. Middle child syndrome! I used to read two or three books at once. I thought that's what everyone did. When I became a mom I found it really hard to find time for reading, I finally joined a book club a couple of years ago and it has been a great motivator for me to read books I wouldn't normally read and to make time for reading on a regular basis.
Last Book Read?
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I loved the memorable characters in this book!
Last Book Bought?
The book I'm reading now: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseine. He also wrote the Kite Runner, one of my favorites.
Five Meaningful Books?
The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy. I think I've read this book about three times. I've read nearly everything Pat Conroy has written. He has a real lyrical writing style. It is a joy to read his work.
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. This is a book I would have never chosen to read on my own, but I read it for my book club. I'm so glad I did! I cried like a baby as I finished it.
The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls. This true story is an amazing look at what it's like to grow up in a family where alcoholism and mental illness play a huge role. One would think this book would be depressing, but the way it is written is actually uplifting. I was struck by the love present in this family. This book is a must for anyone working in the field of social work and/or working with families. I couldn't put it down.
I Don't Know How She Does It by Alison Pearson. This book is so funny, especially if you are a mom who works outside the home.
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. This was a recent pick by Oprah, but our book club read it before she chose it. I love books who immerse you in a world different than your own and cause you to connect with the characters.

hmmm... You've caught me in a great reading week lady...
Thanks for the tag (and for the books to check out above). Janette and I are bookaholics, so we'll both post something on this one ;-)
Liked your list.
May I suggest Possession by A.J. Byatt, Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, The Religion by Tim Willocks, anything by Phillipa Gregory (historical fiction), almost anything by Louise Erdrich (I like the native American perspective and spirituality), Margaret George, Allison Weir (she just wrote her first historical fiction--otherwise, she is famous for REAL history--try The Children of Henry VIII). I am a neighbor to Jane Hamilton, and I like all of her stuff--When Madeleine Was Young is her newest, Obedience is a fav, too--Short History of a Prince, Map of the World, etc. When I want "lite," I read and reread Maeve Binchy.
I am now reading Abundance by Sena Jeter Naslund (author of Ahab's Wife, a bookclub book). It is historical fiction, about Marie Antoinette.
Thanks!
it was reaaly such a worthwhile exercise, thinking about this. And also thanks for the great reads mentioned in your post. Pat Conroy is one of my favourites too!
